For this post we will be making a simple gantry to run on a piece of 2040 v-slot. 

Parts needed are:
- 1 x 100mm V-Slot Gantry Plate 

- 4 x Solid D Wheels

- 4 x 25mm Low Profile Screws

- 4 x Precision Shims

- 4 x Nylon Lock Nuts

- 2 x 6.35mm (1/4") Spacers

- 2 x Eccentric Spacers

Tools needed:

- 3mm Allen Key

- 8mm Spanner

- 10mm Spanner

We will use a 100mm Gantry Plate, but any size will do as long as it fits with the v-slot profile. You can also use either the v-slot solid or V wheels.

Before starting, take a look at the exploded view below:1. Make sure to have identified the correct holes in the Gantry Plate for the screws to go through. In this example it is the middle of the set of 3 holes. On one side the holes are Ø5mm, these are for the 6.35mm spacers. On the other side the holes are Ø7.2mm, these are for the eccentric spacers (see exploded view above).

2. Push the screw through on one side. On the other slide on in the following order and tighten with Allen key and spanner:

- 6.35mm spacer

- Precision Shim

- D Wheel- Nut

3. One the other end push the screw through and then slide on in the following order order and hand tighten:

- Eccentric Spacer

- Precision Shim

- D Wheel

- Nut

4. Repeat #2 and #3 so you have all 4 wheels on and hand tight.

5. Roll the gantry on to the V-Slot - the Eccentric Spacers on one side and the 6.35mm Spacers on the other. See image below:
6. Now to tighten and remove any slack. Using a 10mm spanner turn the Eccentric Spacer until the D Wheel is seated in the V-Slot. Make sure it is not too tight and that it can travel smoothly on the V-Slot. When you have got the adjustment to where you want, tighten the Lock Nut using the Allen Key and 8mm Spanner. Repeat with other Eccentric Spacer.

7. Test the smoothness by moving the Gantry up and down the V-Slot. If motion is hard or jerky, loosen the eccentrics (#6) and re-test. If motion is smooth then make sure everything is tight and test again.

8. All done!

This is the basic construction of a V-Slot Gantry Plate motion system. Of course, like all our build, this can be modified to suit many other configurations. For instance:

- The height of the gantry can be increased by using longer screws and longer/additional spacers. 

- The width of the gantry can be changed to suit 2020, 2040 or 2080 V-slot profiles by using the appropriate gantry plate.

- The 2 gantry plates can be used to add stability (see image below):
